The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public warning regarding a fraudulent website and social media page that are falsely claiming to represent Public Finance Limited. This alert was disseminated following a press release from Public Finance Limited, which brought the fraudulent activities to the attention of the HKMA.

Fraudulent Activities Identified

According to the HKMA, the fraudulent website and social media page are designed to deceive users by mimicking the official channels of Public Finance Limited. The authority has emphasized that banks will never send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct recipients to their websites for transaction purposes. Additionally, banks will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords through phone, email, or SMS.

Public Advisory and Reporting Measures

The HKMA advises anyone who has inadvertently provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through these fraudulent platforms to contact their bank immediately using the official contact details provided in the press release. Furthermore, affected individuals should report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force's Crime Wing Information Centre at 2860 5012.

The HKMA's website offers further guidance on identifying and avoiding fraudulent banking websites, phishing emails, and similar scams. For more detailed information, the public can access the official release on the HKMA website.
