NVIDIA has announced the launch of its first digital human technology small language model, Nemotron-4 4B Instruct, aimed at revolutionizing the conversational abilities of game characters. This innovative model is being demonstrated in the new multiplayer mech game, Mecha BREAK, developed by Amazing Seasun Games, according to the NVIDIA Blog.

Nemotron-4 4B Instruct is specifically designed to run on GeForce RTX AI PCs, offering game characters the ability to understand and respond to players more naturally. The model leverages NVIDIA's ACE technology, optimized for deployment on GeForce RTX AI PCs and laptops, significantly enhancing the development of next-generation games.

A Small Language Model Purpose-Built for Role-Playing

The Nemotron-4 4B Instruct model brings advanced role-playing, retrieval-augmented generation, and function-calling capabilities to game characters. This allows them to comprehend player instructions more intuitively, respond accurately, and perform relevant actions. Available as an NVIDIA NIM microservice, this model is optimized for low memory usage, ensuring faster response times and facilitating the development of generative AI-powered applications.

Part of NVIDIA's ACE suite, Nemotron-4 4B Instruct integrates speech, intelligence, and animation technologies powered by generative AI. It is accessible for both cloud and on-device deployment, providing game developers with flexible implementation options.

First Game Showcases ACE NIM Microservices

Mecha BREAK, developed by Amazing Seasun Games, a subsidiary of Kingsoft Corporation, is the first game to showcase the NVIDIA Nemotron-4 4B Instruct NIM running on-device. The game also features NVIDIA Audio2Face-3D NIM and Whisper, OpenAI’s automatic speech recognition model, for facial animation and speech recognition. Additionally, ElevenLabs powers the character's voice through the cloud.

At Gamescom, one of the world's largest gaming expos, NVIDIA demonstrated how ACE and digital human technologies enable players to interact with a mechanic NPC in Mecha BREAK. This NPC assists players in selecting and customizing mechanized robots, providing advice on optimizing their war machines for battle. “We’re excited to showcase the power and potential of ACE NIM microservices in Mecha BREAK, using Audio2Face and Nemotron-4 4B Instruct to dramatically enhance in-game immersion,” stated Kris Kwok, CEO of Amazing Seasun Games.

Perfect World Games Explores Latest Digital Human Technologies

In addition to Amazing Seasun Games, global game publisher Perfect World Games is also leveraging NVIDIA ACE and digital human technologies. Their demo, Legends, incorporates new AI-powered vision capabilities, allowing the character Yun Ni to see and identify people and objects in the real world using the computer’s camera, powered by ChatGPT-4o. This adds an augmented reality layer to the gameplay experience, providing a new level of immersion and accessibility for PC games.
