Agora, a firm whose intention is bringing voting systems into the digital age, has partnered with Onfido in developing smooth biometric e-voting powered through artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technologies. The primary objective of this project is offering online privacy and data security to users.

Agora is expected to integrate the biometric identity verification platform availed by Onfido with its blockchain-enabled e-voting structure. Part of the agreement stipulates that the integration will enable voters to reveal a photo of their national ID and a selfie needed in the authentication of their identity. This will happen through a voting machine or smartphone.

The structural AI utilized will be instrumental in the confirmation of whether the ID is real or not as it will be matched through biometric data-points. The platform created through the collaboration is expected to minimize costs, deter fraud, and make the voting process appealing.

Voting has proven to be problematic, especially for citizens located in rural or remote areas. The partnership is expected to avert this challenge as all citizens will be given a fair chance to participate in biometric e-voting irrespective of their location.

The distributed ledger technology (DLT) utilized in blockchain has proven to be instrumental in the transformation of various sectors. For instance, some top coffee shops have heeded to the concerns of their customers about the source of the coffee they purchase or consume. As a result, they are seeking technology-based solutions, such as blockchain.
