(REjected Duplicated) Andrew Yang a Crypto Enthusiast who was Eyeing the US Presidency Throws in the Towel
Andrew Yang came to the limelight in 2017 after he showed his intention of running for the 2020 US Presidential elections as a Democratic candidate. His bid for the top seat, however, seems to have come to an end after he told reporters in New Hampshire on Feb 12 that he was suspending his campaign for the presidency.
Yang’s overwhelming support for crypto
Yang’s notable campaign selling point was his exceptional support for blockchain and cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin. Expressly, he stressed the importance of countrywide crypto regulations as compared to state-based ones. Yang was also a believer of a universal basic income for all eligible citizens as he advocated for them to be paid $1,000 monthly.
As reported by Blockchain.News in August 2019, Yang acknowledged the importance of blockchain technology in propelling authentic democracy. As a result, it could enhance Americans partake in the voting process. He revealed that part of his objectives entailed revamping the voting structure using blockchain.
He noted, “It’s ridiculous that in 2020 we are still standing in line for hours to vote in antiquated voting booths. It is 100% technically possible to have fraud-proof voting on our mobile phones today using the blockchain. This would revolutionize true democracy and increase participation to include all Americans - those without smartphones could use the legacy system, and lines would be very short.”
Yang also stamped his interest in the crypto sphere as he boosted his campaigns through Bitcoin donations.
Yang was envied by many for his crypto stance
Yang’s campaigns attracted massive following across the globe, especially given that he was a crypto enthusiast. For instance, his #YangGang movement saw crypto fans join in droves to support his presidential candidature.
Yang emerged to be a reputable advocate who asked the federal government to set clear guidelines of how digital asset markets or cryptocurrencies could be regulated and treated.
Nevertheless, he seems to have thrown in the towel because numbers did not favor him in the nominations.
