Brian Burlant: Most Lawyers Do Not Understand Privacy in Blockchain

Brian Burlant – Managing Director of Lindsey & Africa said that there is a shortage of legal professionals who are familiar with the blockchain technology, according to the legal news published by Law.com on 17 April. In particular, lawyers do not have expertise in privacy law related to blockchain and digital assets.

He advised a successful career development for law student requires a business approach and a practical understanding on how blockchain works. He also suggested law student should focus on blockchain instead of cryptocurrencies.

Burlant further explained that a lot of lawyers engaged in legal practices related to cryptocurrencies came from regulatory authorities or government. Mary K. Young, a partner at Zeughauser group added “I think that the blockchain space was extremely popular for lawyers toward the end of 2017, and then the cryptocurrency crash happened, and a lot of lawyers who were working in crypto or blockchain went back quietly to whatever they were doing before, like Silicon Valley in the 90s.”
