According to the opinion of a scholar from the University of Hong Kong, blockchain and Artificial Intelligence(AI) could be utilized to put in check details coming in from the rampaging coronavirus epidemic.
On 5th of Feb-2020, Syren Johnstone, Executive director of the master in law (compliance and regulation) degree at the University of Hong Kong made into public a post for the Oxford University Faculty of Law Department blog where it was debated that the spread of coronavirus should be taken as a call to action for the tech industry.

According to Johnstone’s opinion which stated that charity organizations are in some way restricted or limited in their intentions to channel and monitor donations effectively in times of crises due to Beijing’s stance on institutional and political choices.
It further stated donations from the public are being channelled through five government-backed charity organizations as set up by the Chinese government. Such a method he opined shows a major backward movement to modern-day China before the year 2016 before the country implemented laws enabling the creation of private sector backed charity organizations.
He went further to state that such an approach is merely empowering the problem and that a tech industry blockchain like option would have been a more efficient solution to the problem.
With the use of blockchain, there would be transparency and a clean record in effectively tracking donations either in form of cash or relief materials like face masks, which also makes it possible to hold someone or group of people accountable in case of any form of discrepancies.
Johnstone made mention of China President Xi Jinping’s approval of blockchain technology a basis to give credibility to his stance further stating tech firms should work hand in hand with China’s Industry with the use of AI to put an end to the terrors of the virus.
