IBM Files Blockchain Patent for Autonomous Cars
According to the patent published by the U.S Patent and Trademark Office on April 2, IBM had filed a patent that use blockchain technology to monitor and manage the data for autonomous cars.
One of the highlights of this patent is that the sensors incorporated in the vehicle can monitor and manage the behavior of drivers. The data collected can be used to manage the risk and mitigate accidents based on the predicted data from other automobiles. The patent further describes that autonomous car can access the data for driver’s behavior by scanning license plate number.
“The sensors incorporated in the driver’s vehicle can collect, detect and identify information about the driver’s behavior in real time and load it into a data center stored in the cloud to which the autonomous vehicle can subscribe to”, as stated in the patent.
IBM had already filed blockchain patents related to the improvement of privacy and information validation in automobile industry. IPR Daily published an analysis stating IBM ranked 2nd in term of the number of blockchain patents filed in 2018. Besides, IBM is only one patent behind from the number one spot, Alibaba.
