(Reject) Samsung to Deploy Blockchain-Powered App for Secure File Transfer

South Korean tech giant Samsung plans to launch a blockchain-based app dubbed Private Share to enhance file transfer security. Files being sent through the app will be encrypted so that recipients will only use the information as intended by the senders.

Setting particular parameters

As per the announcement:

“Private Share is going to allow users to share their files privately. It’s the same concept as ephemeral messaging. The sender will be able to set an expiration date for the files. The shared files would automatically be deleted from the recipient’s device after expiry.”

The app will also hinder recipients from resharing files, as well as taking screenshots. The notion behind Private Share is to use blockchain technology to set certain parameters before sending a file. For instance, the sender will have the opportunity to ensure that a specific file is only opened and accessed by a certain receipt. 

Moreover, once the transfer channel is created, an expiration date for the file will be set, with the option of being permanently deleted without the chance of ever being recovered. 

Samsung making headways in the blockchain/crypto space

Samsung has been making notable strides in the blockchain/crypto arena. The tech giant already has a blockchain keystore that offers users a platform to manage their digital keys and private information pertaining to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, and Klaytn.

In May, Samsung partnered with Gemini, a leading American crypto exchange, to bring crypto closer to Samsung blockchain wallet users in Canada and the United States. The collaboration was aimed at boosting users’ satisfaction rates by presenting sophisticated security measures.

Furthermore, in July, Samsung enabled its users to store the private keys of their cryptocurrency wallet on their phones securely, with a new add-on feature by the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF). With the plan to launch Private Share, it seems the sky’s the limit for Samsung when it comes to exploring the blockchain/crypto space.
