Volvo’s Recycled Cobalt Blockchain Cars

Volvo Cars, a subsidiary of Geely, a Chinese automotive company, has attested to have generated the first vehicles comprising recycled cobalt crafted with the help of blockchain technology. Volvo testified to having another research where cobalt is monitored in the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo).

Immense pressure has been exerted on vehicle manufacturers from various stakeholders. For instance, they have had to show that cars are independent of child abuse or war materials. As a result, blockchain advancement has come in handy in developing a rigid ledger like the one used in cryptocurrencies. Carmakers such as Volvo have opted for the blockchain technology as it propels liability in supply-chain management. Based on Volvo’s revelation, the initial blockchain required for the recycled cobalt had been completed.

Per the email:

"It tracked cobalt from a Chinese recycling plant to Volvo Cars Zhejiang over a two-month period to June 27."

Volvo acknowledged that technological advancements such as blockchain will be instrumental in ensuring optimal lucidity and detection in the undertaking. The blockchain being utilized has been created by Circulorn whereas the technology is from Oracle. Conversely, blockchain is anticipated to ease mineral trafficking. Notably, information from every mineral level will be entered into a blockchain, and this will be instrumental in eradicating conflicts and propelling answerability.
