Anthropic has opened a new chapter in AI transparency, revealing results from a pilot program that allowed external researchers to analyze aggregated usage data from its Claude AI models. The Stanford team found that over half of the interactions involved users delegating high-stakes tasks, such as legal or financial inquiries, to Claude. Meanwhile, Oxford researchers studied how users' emotional responses were tied to Claude's behavior. For instance, users reacted positively when Claude was "warm" but pushed back when it refused suggestions. Interestingly, these emotions mirrored patterns seen in general internet usage, suggesting that AI engagement might share psychological parallels with other digital interactions.

At METR, early findings indicated that more advanced Claude models significantly reduced task completion times, particularly in coding. They also noted that Claude’s time estimates for tasks aligned closely with real-world developer performance, validating its utility in streamlining workflows.

Challenges and Next Steps

Although the pilot program succeeded in maintaining user privacy and research independence, Anthropic acknowledged the resource-intensive nature of the effort.
