Binance Adjusts P2P Merchant Requirements in Taiwan TWD Market

In a significant regulatory update, Binance has announced changes for peer-to-peer (P2P) merchants operating in the New Taiwan dollar (TWD) market. This move comes as part of compliance with the amended Taiwan Money Laundering Control Act, set to take effect on November 30, 2024, according to Binance.

Compliance Requirements

Binance has stipulated that all merchants within the TWD market, including those dealing in cash, must possess P2Pro verification to continue their operations. This verification requires approval from Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) through their AML Compliance Statement. Merchants who fail to obtain this verification will see their advertisements removed from Binance's TWD market platform by November 29, 2024.

Impact on Non-Verified Merchants

Merchants lacking P2Pro status will be restricted from posting advertisements or conducting transactions involving TWD on Binance P2P. This measure is intended to bolster compliance with Taiwan's stringent anti-money laundering (AML) standards.

Pathway to Compliance

Binance encourages affected merchants to initiate the Money Laundering Prevention Registration with the FSC starting November 30, 2024. Following this, they can apply for P2Pro Merchant status, which will allow them to continue trading in the TWD market.

Global Regulatory Environment

This adjustment reflects the broader trend of increasing regulatory scrutiny in the cryptocurrency sector worldwide. Exchanges and platforms are progressively aligning with local laws to enhance transparency and prevent illicit activities.

As the regulatory landscape evolves, Binance's proactive approach underscores its commitment to maintaining compliance and fostering a secure trading environment for its users globally.
