Bitfarms (BITF) Reports Record Hashrate Growth and Strategic Expansion in 2024

Bitfarms Ltd. (NASDAQ/TSX: BITF), a leader in Bitcoin data center operations, has reported significant advancements in its production and operations for December 2024. The company enhanced its hashrate by 97% year-on-year, achieving 12.8 EH/s, according to a report from Bitfarms.

Strategic Growth and Efficiency Improvements

Throughout 2024, Bitfarms made notable strides in enhancing operational efficiency, achieving a 40% improvement in watts per terahash, now at 21 w/TH. The company's operational capacity increased 35% year-on-year to 324 MW. This was accompanied by the earning of 2,914 BTC for the year.

Ben Gagnon, CEO of Bitfarms, stated, “2024 was a transformative year for Bitfarms. We accomplished a tremendous amount, including doubling our hashrate and upgrading 11 data centers.”

Stronghold Acquisition and U.S. Expansion

Bitfarms is on track to close its acquisition of Stronghold Digital Mining in the first quarter of 2025. This acquisition is poised to significantly expand Bitfarms' presence in the U.S., particularly in the PJM region, with plans for a potential expansion capacity of up to 1.6 GW. This marks a strategic pivot towards increasing its North American footprint, which currently stands at 66% of its energy portfolio.

The acquisition is expected to enhance Bitfarms' capabilities in power generation and energy trading, aligning with its strategy to diversify beyond Bitcoin mining into areas like high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.

Financial Insights and BTC Production

Bitfarms reported a total liquidity of $147 million as of December 31, 2024, with $60 million held in cash. The company sold 147 BTC from its December earnings, generating $14.3 million in revenue. Additionally, Bitfarms closed its Synthetic HODL program positions, realizing an 18% trading profit, equating to a 135% return since the program's inception.

December's mining operations resulted in the production of 211 BTC, a 2% increase from November, despite a 7% rise in Bitcoin difficulty.

As Bitfarms enters 2025, it aims to leverage its strengthened infrastructure and strategic acquisitions to capitalize on emerging opportunities in both Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing sectors. The company plans to continue its disciplined approach to capital raising and deployment, ensuring minimal dilution while maximizing shareholder value.
