Bitfarms Ltd. (NASDAQ/TSX: BITF), a leading global Bitcoin mining and data center company, has announced the completion of the sale of its 200 MW data center located in Yguazu, Paraguay. The sale, valued at approximately $85 million, was made to HIVE Digital Technologies, Ltd., as reported by GlobeNewswire.

Strategic Shift to North America

With the completion of this transaction, Bitfarms is set to redirect its focus towards North America, aiming to streamline operations and rebalance its portfolio. The company's CEO, Ben Gagnon, highlighted that by the end of 2025, approximately 80% of Bitfarms' energy portfolio will be North American, marking a significant shift from its previous international focus.

Financial and Operational Benefits

Jeff Lucas, CFO of Bitfarms, noted that the sale is expected to reduce the company's capital expenditure requirements for 2025 and lower average power costs by 10%. The proceeds from the sale will be reinvested into a 1.1 GW growth pipeline in the United States, focusing on Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. This aligns with Bitfarms' strategic goal of diversifying beyond Bitcoin mining.

Company Overview

Founded in 2017, Bitfarms is a vertically integrated Bitcoin mining company that operates data centers in the United States, Canada, Paraguay, and Argentina. The company utilizes environmentally friendly hydroelectric power and is committed to sustainable energy practices. Bitfarms currently runs 15 Bitcoin data centers and plans to expand its operations further into North America.

Industry Context

The sale of the Yguazu data center comes amid a broader industry trend where Bitcoin mining companies are consolidating operations to focus on regions with more favorable regulatory and economic conditions. North America, with its stable political landscape and access to renewable energy sources, has become an attractive location for cryptocurrency mining operations.

Bitfarms' decision to sell its Paraguayan facility and reinvest in North America reflects the company's strategic pivot to capitalize on these industry trends. This move is expected to enhance Bitfarms' operational efficiency and position it for sustainable growth in the rapidly evolving digital currency market.
