Celo adds cNGN and Ripio wFIAT support to x402 facilitator
Celo Core Co. said its native x402 facilitator has expanded to support cNGN and Ripio’s local-currency stablecoins wMXN, wCLP and wPEN, broadening the network’s agentic payment rail across Nigeria and several Latin American markets. The update, published on October 27, 2026, extends Celo’s hosted verification and settlement service for stablecoin payments and comes after earlier additions of Ripio’s wARS, wBRL and wCOP.
Evidence and context
According to Celo Core Co., the facilitator now supports 10 stablecoins in total, including USDC, USD₮, USA₮, wARS, wBRL, wCOP, wMXN, wCLP, wPEN and cNGN. The company said the service is designed for APIs, applications and AI agents to pay per request using HTTP 402 Payment Required, with the facilitator verifying signed payment payloads and submitting settlement onchain. Celo’s description says the system is non-custodial for payment transfers, with funds moving directly from buyer to merchant.
The company said the latest additions complete Ripio’s six-token wFIAT suite on Celo and make cNGN agentic-payment ready on the network. Lena Hierzi, developer relations lead at Celo Core Co., said supporting the naira and completing Ripio’s wFIAT stack means an agent on Celo can settle in its owner’s own currency across Latin America and Nigeria. Sebastian Serrano, CEO of Ripio, said the full set of wFIAT currencies now works natively on Celo for agentic payments. Charles Okaformbah, managing director of WrappedCBDC Limited, said cNGN was built to move across multiple networks and that Celo’s facilitator opens a new use case for naira-denominated payments by agents.
Celo’s account of the rollout places it in a sequence of recent product moves: the native x402/Celo facilitator launched in July with USDC and USD₮ support, Ripio’s wARS, wBRL and wCOP were added in September, and USA₮ followed days later, according to the company. Background material supplied with the release says Celo’s implementation is a hosted verification and settlement service built by Celo Core Co., while the underlying x402 protocol is governed separately through the x402 Foundation. The same background notes that most supported assets allow gasless payer transactions, while cNGN requires a first-time Permit2 approval paid by the payer.
The update also lands amid a broader run of Celo ecosystem tooling. Celo Core Co. launched buy on October 13, described as a marketplace for 700+ services, and Self launched Agent Vault two days later as a payment and login layer for AI agents. Separately, a developer announced x402Go on October 22 as a distinct pay-as-you-go facilitator on Celo mainnet; that service is separate from Celo Core Co.’s native facilitator.
Celo’s background materials say the network now supports 33 assets representing 20 currencies, and that its current official x402 page lists prepaid settlement pricing at gas cost plus 0.3% of the settled amount where a USD price is available, or gas only where no USD price is available. The company also says prepaid service balances are non-refundable and cannot be withdrawn. No market data was provided for the token in the supplied material.
