[Duplicated] Cermaq Partners With Labeyrie To Tackle Traceability Of Salmon With Blockchain

Cermaq, a top company in farming of salmon and trout, collaborated with Labeyrie and IBM Food Trust to tackle the traceability of salmon with blockchain, making it possible for consumers to have a knowledge of the source of the fish they purchased, details such as; the food the fish ate, the time it was hatched, the water it was gotten from, its size before it was taken to see water, the vaccinations it was given, the time it was harvested and other information regarding it.  The announcement from Cermaq's official website stated that customers will be able to access this important information by scanning a Q-R code on the product.

Brede Løfsgaard, Sales Director in Cermaq Norway held solemnly that this project is new and exciting and it is centered on transparency and product traceability in every aspect of their value chain.

"This is something we as a company are very focused on, but also something we see that consumers want and expect," Løfsgaard said.

He also added that the project is a perfect point of assurance to the French consumers since it will enable them to know some vital information about the salmon they are purchasing.

"This project contributes to reassuring French consumers that the salmon they are purchasing has been farmed in a responsible and sustainable way, is healthy and nutritious, and comes from the beautiful, cold and crisp waters north of the Arctic Circle," Løfsgaard added.

Labeyrie has launched its new traceability system for two of its Norwegian smoked salmon products. With this, they are able to give their consumers the awesome opportunity to access the necessary information about the whole production chain of the fish they have purchased.

As noted by the report, Cermaq, a fully owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation headquartered in Oslo, Norway, operates in Canada, Chile, and Norway.
