According to the HKMA, the fraudulent websites and login screens are designed to deceive users into providing sensitive personal information, including login passwords and One-Time Passwords (OTPs). The HKMA has emphasized that legitimate banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to perform transactions. Additionally, banks will not request sensitive personal information such as login credentials or OTPs via phone, email, or SMS. The public is advised to be cautious of any unsolicited communications that ask for such information.
Steps to Take if Compromised
Individuals who have inadvertently provided their personal information or conducted transactions through these fraudulent websites or login screens are urged to contact Dah Sing Bank immediately using the contact information provided in the bank's press release. Additionally, they should report the incident to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.
