Issuance Details

Initially targeting a HK$50 billion issuance, the final amount was increased to HK$55 billion due to high demand. The allocation process, governed by the Issue Circular dated September 30, 2024, ensured that applications for 23 or fewer units received full allocations. For those requesting more than 23 units, each was allocated 23 units with an additional allocation determined by ballot. Ultimately, 23,737 applications received one extra unit.

Silver Bond's Role in Infrastructure Development

The Silver Bond, set to be issued on October 23, 2024, is part of the retail segment of the Infrastructure Bond Programme. Financial Secretary Paul Chan emphasized the bond's role in supporting infrastructure projects crucial to Hong Kong's economic and social development. He noted that the positive subscription response confirms the bond's appeal as a secure investment option for senior citizens, providing stable returns and fostering a sense of involvement in the region's growth initiatives.

Future Considerations

The Hong Kong government plans to continuously evaluate the efficiency of the Silver Bond scheme, considering investor feedback, market conditions, and other pertinent factors. This ongoing review aims to optimize the program's future offerings to better meet the financial needs of senior residents and contribute to the broader community's welfare.
