Mask Network Academy Reaches $1.5 Million Milestone in Global Philanthropy
Mask Network Academy, the non-profit arm of the decentralized social protocol Mask Network, has reached a significant milestone by donating $1.5 million to various educational institutions worldwide, according to Mask Network. These contributions have been strategically directed towards fostering Web3 educational programs and supporting entrepreneurs globally.
Strategic Donations to Top Institutions
Established in 2023, Mask Network Academy has focused on providing funding and donations to leading universities and journalism programs. Its mission is to drive forward innovation in Web3 and enhance storytelling around this emerging technology. The Academy's efforts include significant donations to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Graduate School of Journalism at U.C. Berkeley.
In April, the Academy donated $50,000 to the HKUST Crypto Fintech Lab, marking the institution's first cryptocurrency donation. This funding is earmarked for blockchain research and education. In July, the Academy contributed $100,000 to U.C. Berkeley's journalism school to develop a course on future technologies and decentralized social networks.
Supporting Education and Innovation
The Academy has also established a three-year Mask Network Fund with Yale-China to support educational and artist residency programs, as well as bilateral education exchanges. This initiative is the first-of-its-kind crypto donation aimed at advancing educational work in both China and the United States.
Moreover, Mask Network Academy has collaborated with The Media Economies Design Lab at CU Boulder to launch the "Open Social Incubator," aimed at fostering innovation in decentralized social media communities.
The Mask Grants Program
Beyond direct donations, Mask Network has been actively supporting the Web3 ecosystem through its Grants Program. This initiative funds projects that enhance the value of Web3 and Mask's ecosystem, supporting 89 projects with $100,000 in grants. Notable beneficiaries include Scam Sniffer, Eth.limo, and Kudasai.
Looking Ahead
Mask Network's non-profit initiatives are only beginning. The donations made in 2024 are pivotal in advancing its mission to support Web3 education and storytelling. Both the Academy and Grants programs will continue to shape the future of decentralized social media and drive innovation in Web3.
