OKX, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has announced a significant update to its ETHUSD-margined futures offerings. According to OKX, the platform will introduce additional expiration dates to enhance market liquidity and provide more trading opportunities for its users.

New Expiration Dates

Starting at 8:00 am UTC on June 21, 2024, OKX will expand the available durations for ETHUSD-margined futures to include weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, and bi-quarterly periods. This marks an increase from the current offerings, which include only weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly, and bi-quarterly durations.

The newly listed futures will have expiration dates on July 5, 2024, July 26, 2024, and August 30, 2024. Following this adjustment, the full range of expiration dates for newly listed ETHUSD futures will be as follows:

  • June 28, 2024
  • July 5, 2024
  • July 26, 2024
  • August 30, 2024
  • September 27, 2024
  • December 27, 2024

Futures Generation Rules

The updated futures generation rules will apply to various types of futures, including BTCUSDT, BTCUSD, and ETHUSD. The rules outline specific durations, listing times, and expiration dates to ensure a structured and predictable trading environment.

For BTCUSDT, BTCUSD, and ETHUSD futures, the available expiration durations will be:

  • Weekly
  • Bi-weekly
  • Monthly
  • Bi-monthly
  • Quarterly
  • Bi-quarterly

For non-BTCUSDT, non-BTCUSD, and non-ETHUSD futures, the available expiration durations will be limited to weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly, and bi-quarterly.

Details of the Adjustments

According to the newly published rules, the expiration date and time for weekly futures will be every Friday at 8:00 am UTC. Monthly futures will expire on the last Friday of each month at 8:00 am UTC, while quarterly futures will expire on the last Friday of each calendar quarter at the same time.

New futures will be listed at 8:00 am UTC. For bi-weekly, bi-monthly, and bi-quarterly futures, the listing will occur on specific Fridays, depending on whether their expiration dates coincide with existing futures. If there is an overlap, the new futures will not be listed to avoid redundancy.

The new futures listing schedule includes:

  • Bi-weekly: every Friday
  • Bi-monthly: every third-to-last Friday of the month
  • Bi-quarterly: every third-to-last Friday of the expiration month (January, April, July, and October)

These changes are designed to streamline the trading process and offer more flexibility and opportunities for traders.
