OpenAI Appoints Sarah Friar as CFO and Kevin Weil as CPO to Strengthen Leadership Team
OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence research organization, has announced the appointment of Sarah Friar as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Kevin Weil as Chief Product Officer (CPO). Strengthening Financial Leadership
Sarah Friar joins OpenAI from Nextdoor, where she served as CEO. Her extensive background includes roles as CFO at Square and positions at Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, and Salesforce. Friar is also a Board Member of Walmart and Consensys, a Fellow of the Aspen Institute, and Co-Chair of the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, which is part of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI).
As CFO, Friar will lead OpenAI's finance team, focusing on securing continued investment in the company's core research capabilities and scaling operations to meet the demands of a growing global customer base. “I’m honored to join a team that is uniquely talented and mission-focused,” said Friar. “My goal is to help OpenAI continue excelling at what it does best—producing top-tier research and collaborating to maximize the benefits of AI tools for everyone.”
Enhancing Product Development
Kevin Weil brings his expertise from Planet Labs, where he was President of Product and Business. Weil has a rich history in product leadership, having co-founded the Libra cryptocurrency and served as VP of Product for Novi at Facebook, VP of Product at Instagram, and SVP of Product at Twitter. He is also a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and serves on the boards of The Nature Conservancy and Black Product Managers Network.
As CPO, Weil will lead OpenAI's product team, focusing on translating research into practical products and services that benefit consumers, developers, and businesses. “The product team at OpenAI has set the pace for both breakthrough innovation, and thoughtful deployment of AI products,” said Weil. “I am thrilled to be part of the next phase of growth, as we continue to safely and responsibly build towards AGI.”
