OpenAI Appoints Sarah Friar as CFO and Kevin Weil as CPO

OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence research organization, has announced the appointment of Sarah Friar as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Kevin Weil as Chief Product Officer (CPO). The new executives are expected to drive forward OpenAI's mission of conducting world-leading research and developing AI products, according to OpenAI.

Leadership Enhancements

Sarah Friar, previously the CEO of Nextdoor, will lead OpenAI's finance team. Her extensive background includes roles as CFO at Square, as well as positions at Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, and Salesforce. Friar also serves on the boards of Walmart and Consensys and is a Fellow of the Aspen Institute. Additionally, she co-chairs the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, part of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI.

Kevin Weil, who recently served as President, Product and Business at Planet Labs, will head OpenAI's product team. Weil's experience spans co-founding the Libra cryptocurrency and holding key product roles at Facebook's Novi, Instagram, and Twitter. He is also a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the boards of The Nature Conservancy and the Black Product Managers Network.

Key Objectives

Friar and Weil join OpenAI at a pivotal time, as the organization aims to scale its operations to meet increasing global demand. Friar will focus on ensuring continued investment in OpenAI's core research capabilities and scaling its financial operations. Weil, on the other hand, will lead efforts to translate OpenAI's research into practical products and services for consumers, developers, and businesses.
