Ripple (XRP) has announced the launch of a new fund aimed at accelerating innovation on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) in Japan and South Korea, according to ripple.com. This initiative is part of a broader commitment by Ripple to invest in promising projects and foster partnerships in these regions.

Strategic Partnerships and Support

The XRPL Japan and Korea Fund will support a variety of initiatives designed to promote the use of the XRP Ledger. These initiatives include forming partnerships with leading companies in both countries to explore and implement enterprise use cases across diverse industries. Additionally, the fund aims to provide financial and technical support to developers working on promising projects on the XRPL.

Investments will also be directed towards startups that are developing innovative use cases leveraging the XRPL. Furthermore, the fund will support community activities in Japan and South Korea, including events, hackathons, and educational programs to foster local XRPL communities.

Significant Financial Commitment

The Japan and Korea Fund is part of Ripple’s $1 billion XRP commitment, which has previously supported developers through programs such as XRPL Grants and XRPL Accelerator. A large portion of this commitment will now be allocated to the Japanese and South Korean markets, amounting to tens of millions of dollars over the long term.

Emi Yoshikawa, Ripple’s Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, stated, “The launch of this fund reflects Ripple's strong belief in Japan and South Korea as critical regions for blockchain innovation. We look forward to seeing the transformative impact this fund will have on these vibrant markets.”

Growing Markets with Strong Foundations

Japan and South Korea are recognized as some of the most dynamic and rapidly growing markets within the global XRPL community. These regions benefit from strong financial institutions, advanced regulatory frameworks, and innovative blockchain startups. In May 2024, the seventh wave of XRPL Grants awarded funding to Japan-based VWBL and South Korea-based Moai Finance, enabling them to continue their XRPL-based development and business expansion.

VWBL (Viewable Protocol) focuses on using NFTs to securely carry encrypted external data, allowing only authorized users to access it. Moai Finance is developing a multi-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) and cross-chain DEX aggregator to enhance asset liquidity and usability within the XRPL community.

Long-Standing Partnerships and Future Events

Ripple has established multiple partnerships in Japan and South Korea over the years. In 2016, Ripple partnered with SBI Holdings to form SBI Ripple Asia. More recently, Ripple entered a strategic partnership with HashKey DX, a consulting firm based in Tokyo, to introduce enterprise solutions leveraging the XRPL to the Japanese market. XRPL will also be used to issue official NFTs for the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, which is expected to attract millions of participants.

To further demonstrate its commitment to these markets, key Ripple executives will attend major industry events such as WebX Asia and Korea Blockchain Week in August and September. Additionally, community events will be held in Seoul and Tokyo in early September, providing local developers and community members with opportunities to learn more about the XRPL Japan and Korea Fund and Ripple’s vision for supporting projects in these regions.
