Ripple (XRP), a prominent player in the blockchain industry, has announced the launch of the XRPL Japan and Korea Fund. This fund aims to support and accelerate innovations based on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) in Japan and South Korea, according to Ripple.com.

Key Initiatives Supported by the Fund

The XRPL Japan and Korea Fund will back various initiatives to integrate and explore XRPL use cases in different industries. Key initiatives include:

  • Corporate Partnerships: Collaborations with leading companies in Japan and South Korea to integrate XRPL across various sectors and explore enterprise use cases.

  • Developer Grants: Providing funding, technical, and business support to promising XRPL-based projects.

  • Startup Investments: Identifying and investing in startups that build new and exciting use cases utilizing XRPL.

  • Community Growth: Supporting local XRPL community engagement and growth through regional events, hackathons, and educational programs.

Previously, Ripple committed to providing financial, technical, and business support worth 1 billion XRP to developers utilizing XRPL. The XRPL Japan and Korea Fund is a continuation of this effort, with a significant portion of the committed XRP aimed at supporting promising opportunities in these regions. The fund is expected to be worth millions of dollars in the long term.

Statements from Ripple Executives

Emi Yoshikawa, Ripple's Vice President of Strategy and Operations, emphasized the significance of the fund, stating, “The launch of the XRPL Japan and Korea Fund showcases Ripple’s strong belief in the potential of Japan and South Korea as regional hubs for blockchain innovation. This fund is part of Ripple’s ongoing efforts to foster innovation within the local XRPL communities. We anticipate that this fund will have a transformative impact on these dynamic markets.”

Existing Partnerships and Community Growth

Japan and Korea's XRPL communities are already thriving, driven by strong institutional partnerships, proactive regulatory frameworks, and the growth of innovative blockchain startups. The seventh wave of the XRPL Grants program, announced in May 2024, saw Japanese company VWBL and Korean firm Moai Finance chosen as beneficiaries. These companies will receive funding to continue developing and expanding XRPL-based projects.

  • VWBL (Japan): VWBL, or Viewable, uses NFTs to encapsulate encrypted data for real-world scenarios like medical examinations. It operates as an on-chain condition-based access control protocol and key management network across multiple blockchains.

  • Moai Finance (Korea): Moai Finance aims to enhance asset liquidity and utility within the XRPL community through a multi-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) and cross-chain DEX aggregator. Their flagship product is an AMM-based decentralized protocol enabling seamless asset swaps across different blockchains.

Ripple's Continued Efforts in Japan and Korea

Over the years, Ripple has achieved significant milestones in Japan and Korea through various partnerships. In 2016, Ripple partnered with SBI Holdings to establish SBI Ripple Asia, a joint venture promoting Ripple's payment solutions across Asia. Additionally, Ripple recently formed a strategic partnership with Tokyo-based HashKey DX to introduce XRPL-powered enterprise solutions in the Japanese market. Notably, XRPL will be used to issue official Expo NFTs for the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.

As part of its ongoing efforts in these markets, Ripple's key executives will speak at major industry events such as WebX Asia in Japan and the Korea Blockchain Week. Furthermore, Ripple plans to host community events in Seoul and Tokyo in September to engage local developers and communities, highlighting its vision for supporting XRPL-based projects through the Japan and Korea Fund.
