Taiwanese Electronics Giants Use NVIDIA AI to Transform Factories
Major Taiwanese electronics manufacturers, including Delta Electronics, Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron, are revolutionizing their factory operations by adopting NVIDIA's advanced AI and Omniverse technologies, according to NVIDIA Newsroom. These companies are using a new reference workflow that combines NVIDIA Metropolis vision AI, NVIDIA Omniverse for rendering and simulation, and NVIDIA Isaac for AI robot development and deployment.
Advancing Factory Automation
The integration of these technologies allows manufacturers to build digital twins of their factories for real-time simulation. This capability enables them to optimize space, processes, and efficiency without the need for costly physical changes. Deepu Talla, Vice President of Robotics and Edge Computing at NVIDIA, emphasized the transformative impact of generative AI and digital twins in making factories more autonomous and efficient.
“AI for manufacturing is here. Every factory is becoming more and more autonomous due to the transformational impact of generative AI and digital twin technologies,” Talla said. “With NVIDIA Omniverse, Metropolis, and Isaac, the industrial ecosystem can accelerate its adoption of autonomous technologies, helping advance operational efficiencies and lower costs.”
Implementation by Leading Manufacturers
Delta Electronics, a leader in electronics and IoT-based smart green solutions, is leveraging NVIDIA Isaac Sim, an extensible robotics simulation platform developed on Omniverse and OpenUSD. This integration allows Delta to virtually integrate demo production lines and generate synthetic data for training computer vision models used in their NVIDIA Metropolis-powered inspection and defect detection solutions.
Foxconn, one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers, showcased during a COMPUTEX keynote demo by NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang how it uses NVIDIA Omniverse to develop digital twins of its factories. These digital twins help optimize equipment layout, operational flow, and worker safety using AI cameras powered by NVIDIA Metropolis. Additionally, Foxconn uses these digital twins as virtual training environments to simulate and validate its autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and AI robot manipulation arms, which utilize NVIDIA Isaac Perceptor and Manipulator AI models.
Pegatron is deploying an NVIDIA Metropolis multi-camera workflow and launching new services that connect its NVIDIA Omniverse and Metropolis factory digital twins to NVIDIA NeMo and NVIDIA NIM. These advancements are expected to improve worker safety and productivity across Pegatron’s extensive factory network, which spans over 21 million square feet and produces over 15 million assemblies per month.
Wistron is using digital twins built with NVIDIA Omniverse to accelerate the production of NVIDIA DGX and HGX servers. By simulating its facility and workflows first, Wistron brought its factory online in just two and a half months, significantly faster than the typical five months. The digitalization process has also increased worker efficiency by more than 50%.
Expanding the Ecosystem
Kenmec, a leading Taiwan systems integrator, is an early adopter of both Omniverse and Metropolis workflows for major manufacturers such as Giant Group. These digital twin workflows are now available as a reference architecture series to help developers across the ecosystem implement these advanced technologies.
