Tether's Plan ₿ Forum in El Salvador Highlights Bitcoin's Growing Role
The first-ever Plan ₿ Forum in El Salvador, an initiative spearheaded by Tether to promote Bitcoin and blockchain technology, concluded with a sold-out event and pivotal discussions on Bitcoin's future. According to Tether, the forum, held on January 30-31, 2025, attracted approximately 2,500 participants from around the globe, reinforcing El Salvador's status as a leader in digital asset infrastructure.
Key Announcements and Discussions
A significant highlight of the forum was the announcement of USDt's integration with Bitcoin's base layer and the Lightning Network. This development, in collaboration with Lightning Labs and powered by Taproot Assets, promises enhanced transaction speed and efficiency while maintaining Bitcoin's robust security. The announcement was made during a fireside chat between Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino and Lightning Labs CEO Elizabeth Stark.
Paolo Ardoino expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "The first Plan ₿ Forum in El Salvador exceeded all expectations, highlighting Bitcoin's growing role in global finance. Bringing together industry leaders in a country that has embraced Bitcoin on a national level underscores its real-world potential."
Symbolic Tribute and Influential Speakers
The forum also featured the unveiling of a second Satoshi Nakamoto statue, following the first statue revealed in Lugano, Switzerland. This tribute symbolizes Bitcoin's expanding influence and the shared vision of financial freedom that connects El Salvador and Lugano as pivotal hubs for Bitcoin adoption.
The event hosted an elite lineup of speakers, including Adam Back (CEO of Blockstream), Samson Mow (CEO at JAN3), Lana Negrete (Mayor of Santa Monica), Jimmy Song (Bitcoin Educator and Author), and Milena Mayorga (Ambassador of El Salvador to the United States), among others.
Looking Ahead
Building on the success of the El Salvador forum, the Plan ₿ initiative is looking ahead to its next event. The fourth annual Plan ₿ Forum is scheduled to take place in Lugano, Switzerland, on October 24-25, 2025.
