Circle, a leading financial technology firm, has announced that its stablecoin, USDC, is now available in Brazil and Mexico through their respective national payment systems, PIX and SPEI, according to circle.com. This integration allows for seamless fiat transfers and accelerates access to digital dollars in these regions.

Enhanced Access Through Local Systems

With the integration of PIX in Brazil and SPEI in Mexico, businesses can now access USDC directly from local financial institutions without the need for international wire transfers. This significantly reduces the time required to settle transactions, which previously could take several days, to just minutes.

Circle offers USDC directly from Brazilian Reais (BRL) and Mexican Pesos (MXN) at competitive rates. This eliminates the need for currency conversion to USD before obtaining USDC, allowing businesses to save on costs and improve operational efficiency.

Significance for Latin American Markets

The availability of USDC in these major Latin American economies is a significant milestone. Mexico, one of the largest trading partners of the United States, engages in over $800 billion of annual trade in goods and services. Brazil's foreign trade, predominantly conducted in USD, amounts to approximately $640 billion annually, with $120 billion in direct trade with the US.

Additionally, the US-to-Mexico corridor is the world's largest for remittance flows, totaling $63 billion in 2023. Stablecoins like USDC offer a more cost-effective alternative to traditional remittance methods, which typically incur a 6.35% fee on the face value of transactions.

Driving Blockchain and Traditional Finance Convergence

This development is part of Circle's broader strategy to enhance digital currency usage in Latin America and globally. The firm anticipates further integrations with local banks and payment systems as more businesses and individuals recognize the benefits of blockchain technology.

Circle's recent efforts have focused on making USDC faster, cheaper, and more accessible in global markets. The integration with PIX and SPEI is expected to boost the attractiveness of USDC for businesses operating in Latin America, where dollar-denominated transactions are prevalent.
