Gate.io Closer To US Debut Following Local Licensing
Gate US, the U.S. branch of Gate.io, the fourth biggest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, claims it has operating licenses in multiple jurisdictions. Gate US would not specify what states it has gotten permits from but stated it is not accepting consumers from the nation at this time. It joins other top US exchanges by volume including Binance US and Gemini.
The Bank Of Canada Stresses Stablecoin Regulation When Legislation Is Presented
Between 2020 and mid-2022, the fiat-referenced crypto asset market grew 30-fold to $161 billion in U.S. dollars. In February, the Canadian House of Commons proposed Bill C-249, Encouraging the Cryptoasset Sector Act. Canada's crypto community supported the law, but it was politically controversial and buried after its second reading.
Nigeria Passes Bitcoin And Cryptocurrency Law
The Nigerian government will soon legalize Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Punch Newspapers of Nigeria announced the news on December 18 after interviewing House of Representatives Committee on Capital Markets Chairman Babangida Ibrahim. If passed, the local Securities and Exchange Commission might consider cryptocurrencies and other digital monies as investment capital.

On his media apology tour, Bankman-Fried again denied fraud. FTX founder William Bankman-Fried has been confirmed as a witness for the House Committee on Financial Services hearing on Dec. 13. He missed the Dec. 14 Senate Committee hearing on the FTX collapse. The other witness is FTX CEO John Ray.
GameStop Abandons Crypto As Q3 Losses Reach $95M
GameStop loses $94.7 million in the third quarter and fires digital assets workers. "We deliberately limited cryptocurrency vulnerability," CEO Matt Furlong stated. It appears to be continuing NFT and blockchain initiatives. GameStop will focus on collectibles, gaming, and pre-owned products. Binance employs Trump audit company to check crypto reserves
Mazars audits Binance's proof-of-reserve (PoR). Mazars' U.S. branch was Donald Trump's longstanding accounting firm. The accounting company is apparently evaluating all of Binance's publicly posted Bitcoin PoR information and will validate future upgrades and tokens.
